Harris County Emergency Corps Collaborates with Texas Medical Center’s Innovation Institute

April 07, 2015

Harris County Emergency Corps and the Texas Medical Center’s (TMC) Innovation Institute are teaming up to develop game-changing technologies for EMS and Emergency Medicine.  TMC Institute Fellows will be riding on HCEC ambulances, observing medics as they provide treatment to patients in emergency situations.

This collaboration will allow the Fellows to see first-hand, how medics assess urgent medical needs and stabilize patients’ conditions using life-saving medications and equipment.   Observing the workflow of a medic will allow the Fellows to better understand what technologies or devices are used routinely, and what technical challenges medics face with different cases in hopes they can develop something new or better.

With their backgrounds, the Fellows are primed to help fuel new innovation.  A few of them are medical doctors with MBA degrees and start-up experience, some are former health IT and biomedical engineers, and some have health care consulting and venture capital experience.
