Breast Cancer Awareness 2020

September 28, 2020

Harris County Emergency Corps – Breast Cancer Awareness 2020

Last year was our biggest BCA fundraising year yet, with $4,000 raised to benefit The Rose.  As many organizations are experiencing hardships this year due to COVID, outside support is needed more than ever.  It is estimated that 276,480 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in U.S. women in 2020, along with 48,530 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer.  Let’s come together as an organization and do our part to help the 1 in 8 women who will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.

T-Shirts were designed by Riva Saenz in the Communications Center and are available for $10 each. Email Michelle at michelle.sterling@hcec.com or Lindsay at lnanninga@hcec.com to purchase.

Using HCEC t-shirts from past years, we have made one custom t-shirt quilt, as well as an additional, more traditional BCA quilt.

Raffle tickets are for sale for a chance to win the quilts through October 20th, with a live drawing to be held on October 21st at 10:00 am.  Raffle tickets may only be purchased online https://hcecbca.ourraffle.org/. At checkout, there is an option for individuals to list the name of the HCEC employee who referred them.

All proceeds from t-shirt and quilt sales will be donated to The Rose.

The Rose reduces deaths from breast cancer by providing access to screening, diagnostics, and treatment services to any woman regardless of her ability to pay. The Rose addresses any barrier that might keep a woman from caring for her own needs. Studies show women often put personal needs on hold while tending to the needs of others. Many women cite costs and lack of access as reasons they delay preventive services. Yet early detection mammography screenings are the most powerful weapons in the fight against breast cancer—which is 98% curable when detected early.

Every service offered by The Rose is available to the uninsured through one of many sponsorship programs. In fact, the whole purpose of the Empower Her® Sponsorship Program is to ensure any woman has access to breast cancer screening, diagnosis, and care. From the initial screening mammogram through diagnostic procedures such as ultrasound and biopsies, as well as access to treatment—all are part of the quality breast health care offered at The Rose.
